Buspar (buspirone): It is effective for many anxious patients, as long as they can tolerate waiting to see full effectiveness, which might take 4 weeks or so.

Certainly: There are many choices for anxiety medication, but clinical and double-blind trials of modern medications certainly have shown their efficacy. However, what is often overlooked is that psychological approaches to anxiety can also be effective in lieu of medicaitons or can be used to decrease or discontinue anxiety meds in about 70% of cases. For some people meds may be necessary.
