A member asked:

What causes the crackly cough sounds from a cold?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fluid: The crackly sound is caused by fluid which is in the airway and the air moving thru the fluid as you breath and cough. When the air sacs or alveoli are involved occurs with pneumonia and the doctor will hear crackles when the chest is listened to with a stethoscope.
