X-rays: If you have dislocated your elbow you will know right away:the pain will be very severe and you can not move it, if you try to move it the pain will be intense. You may have a frcture of the radial head.Only way to tell for sure is with x-rays.

You would know: If you dislocated your elbow, you would have excruciating pain and be unable to move it. But is not subtle at all. Even if you likely did not dislocate it, if you think you otherwise injured it you would be wise to be seen and evaluated.
