Although alcohol is a depressent, can it cause paradoxical anxiety during intoxication?

Alcohol intoxication: This depends on the level of alcohol in the blood. At less than 100 mg/dl level, there is impaired coordination & euphoria. At higher levels, there is labile mood, unpredictable behavior & later on respiratory depression & seizures.

Response to alcohol: Interesting question. I agree with dr. Ali about the differential effects of alcohol depending on quantity consumed. However, i've also had patients who don't like how alcohol makes them feel -- more "out of control, " in some cases. This gets them anxious -- pretty much the opposite of what some people might expect from drinking.
