Allergy or swelling: She may have an allergy that swells the lids when she sleeps or she may have stopped eyelid glands. Both can be treated if she sees her ophthalmologist.

Eyelid swelling: If she sleeps on that side, this could be irritation due to rubbing on her pillow or an allergic issue. Try artificial tears, ointment at night, cool compresses, and allergy meds. Tranquileyes goggles can also be helpful to prevent rubbing of the eyelids during sleep.
