Dry eyes/Irritation: It is likely that you are having dry eyes and irritation from your contact lenses. Stop using them and use lubricating artificial tears. If you don't feel better, see an ophthalmologist. You may need to revisit the issue of contact lens fit and suitability. At age 49 hormonal changes bring many challenges with contact lens wear.

Many possibilities: Corneal infection, chipped contact, scratched cornea. See your ophthalmologist for evaluation.
