Oral Allergy Syndrom: If you have lip, gum, and even throat itching but no other symptoms and if these symptoms occur with uncooked but nor cooked fruit or vegetables you likely have oral allergy syndrome. Oral allergy syndrome occurs when heat-sensitive proteins in fruit & vegetables cross-react with birch tree & ragweed pollens. To be certain your allergist can take a full history and perform skin testing.

Allergies to fruit: Allergic reactions to fresh fruit are fairly common, especially thin-skinned fruit such as apples, pears and peaches. Cooking the fruit usually, but not always, makes the fruit less likely to provoke an allergic reaction.
