A member asked:

When i eat walnuts, my gums become slightly irritated (sore), no itching or swelling, is this an allergy?

Avoid walnut & pecan: You might have oral allergy syndrome, a cross-reaction between allergens in raw fruits, vegetables & nuts & those in birch & ragweed pollens. The resemblance & the consequent symptoms of itchy mouth & throat tickle disappear with sufficient heating of the food. Neither home nor medical cures work so its best to avoid these nuts. An allergist can help sort this out from true walnut/pecan allergy.

Maybe not: It is possible you have oral allergy syndrome...Especially if it goes away quickly on its own....But if it continues, best to avoid them.
