Various: The pros are that it is a minor procedure, with relatively few complications. Also it is about 50 to 80 % effective in treating heavy bleeding problems, depending on the patient's age. The cons are that it is not a form of birth control, does not protect against uterine cancer, and can make it difficult to detect early uterine cancer. A better option is the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud.

Endometrial ablation: There are several different modalities for endometrial ablation from laser use to roller ball. No matter the type, endometrial ablation does have a percentage of patients that experience renewed uterine bleeding post procedure which is one of the complications. Other complications include infection, uterine perforation, etc. The best procedure is the one the GYN MD is most experienced to perform.
