Evaluating symptoms: Endocrine conditions can certainly cause psychiatric symptoms. That's why screening tests like thyroid function studies are part of a standard psychiatric evaluation for depression, anxiety, etc. Part of the training to become a psychiatrist involves learning to discern, but mistakes can be made. There are also cases where these conditions coexist, and each needs treatment.
