Hard to say: Hip pain after a replacement can be from several sources depending on the approach used for the replacement. The most common source is trochanteric bursitis from the side of your hip. This can be treated with therapy, an injection or both and rarely requires more surgery.

Irritation: Hip pain after tha can be caused by irritation of tendons, muscles, bursa, bone, or the joint lining (synovium). Most common location is groin, buttock, or thigh. Unexplained pain can be evaluated by examining joint fluid, injecting local anesthetics into specific areas, MRI scan, and sometimes metal ion levels in the blood. Some implants can create specific clinical causes of pain.
