Type of test: Hpt should be done 4-5 days after a missed period using first morning urine and following the instructions carefully. A blood test that you could get from your doctor turns positive as soon as the first day of the missed period. 7 days after "late": The most effective time to take a hpt is 7 days after your expected menstrual cycle. A hpt could still be falsely negative if tested too early. Wait until 1/18 and test again if you have not started. In the meantime, consider taking Folic Acid supplements just in case.
