Responses vary: After surgery for a herniated disk, numbness takes longer to recover than pain. Depending on how long you had your symptoms before surgery, it can take a really long time or the damage may never fully recover. However, you should talk to your surgeon about it. They may be worried enough to get another MRI to look for residual herniated disk or repeat herniation.

Lumbar radiculopathy: You may have radiculopathy/ or nerve impingement in the area there the small roots are coming out from the spinal cord. I would advise to see neurologist and have an EMG (electromyography) done. You may benefit from physical therapy and injections with Lidocaine and steroids.

May be normal: It is not uncommon to experience residual "numbness" in an area of your leg after a lumbar microdiskectomy. In fact the numbness sensation that you had before surgery is commonly one of the last symptoms to improve, and may take up to 18 months to improve. If you are having any other neurological problems (progressive weakness/ pain), you should contact your surgeon.

Followup: I would just make sure you followup with your surgeon to discuss directly the specifics of your case. It may be normal and just need further time, or it may be a sign of complication. Just make sure your surgeon is aware and keep your followup appointment.
