Pain: Toothaches hurt, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Cavities do not always cause pain, but they can cause almost every type of toothache. If you have a toothache or you think you have a cavity, best to visit the dentist.

Depends: Toothache obviously involves pain. A cavity may be absolutely pain free and invisible to you. That's why it's important to see your dentist regularly. You want to detect and treat small cavities before they become large enough to cause a toothache.

May be the same: Most toothaches are caused by cavities. Many cavities are painless. Only way to evaluate your problem is an exam by your DDS.
