Pre Op Prep: You did not say what kind of surgery you are having but generally speaking you should take a shower and clean that part with soap. Do not shave because it is done in the operating room if needed. Have all the tests recommended. Do not eat or drink after midnight before you go for surgery arrange someone to go with you.

Preop Prep: Particularly in orthopaedics, we are specific about pre-operative preparation, and it can vary based upon the surgery planned. There are suggested pre-op washes and even medications that are sometimes used. My protocol is based upon published literature, as well as experience on a hospital infection control committee. Please speak to your surgeon.
