Break, mass, abscess: A ct scan is a series of x-rays, computer-interpreted to provide the appearance of slicing up the body part(s) imaged. It is good at looking at soft tissues and bones to see if there are fractures, swelling, fluid collections (like bruises or abscesses), or growths (like tumors). The feet can be studied to look for stress fractures or other causes of pain not visible on plain x-rays.
