Better understanding: Gingivitis is the mild and early form of gum inflammation that leads to the more serious form of periodontal disease called periodontitis. Therefore, if the cause of the gingivitis (poor oral hygiene) is left untreated, it will lead to more serious periodontal breakdown and periodontitis. If you already have chronic periodontitis, you are well past the gingivitis stage. See a periodontist for t.

Control the bacteria: Bacteria cause gingivitis and periodontitis. If you control the bacteria you don't have the disease. The perio protect method has been shown to kill 99, 98% of the bacteria (j dent res 2007). If you control the cause and maintain this with daily usage your gingivitis and periodontitis can be prevented from redeveloping after you get it under control.

Yes and No: Gingivitis is a soft tissue only disease affecting only the gum tissue. It's reversible. Chronic periodontitis is the main cause of tooth loss in the us, and is an infection, and involves loss of attachment and bone around the teeth. This is the more worrisome disease and should be treated. It's likely the perpetuating disease.
