Right!: Birth control pills, when taken regularly as directed, stop the ovulation process so that you lower your changes of getting pregnant. However, bcps are not 100% effective, even when taken as you've described. That's why if you're taking a teratogenic medication (something that can cause birth defects) like isotretinoin, we require use of 2 different forms of birth control to further reduce risk.
