Bursitis or fracture: Sometimes when you hit the front of your knee very hard, you can get a bursitis (a swelling between the skin and the bone). The other option is that you might have a broken kneecap (also named patella). You should get an x-ray.

Get it checked: While it might be as simple as a bursa, you should be concerned about a patella fracture, quad tear or patellar tendon tear....All which need surgery.
