Yes, it's OK: Most of the time, there is little more to do if hives can be controlled by otc antihistamines. If you need to take antihistamines for more than a month to keep the hives controlled, or particularly if the hives come back despite taking Allegra (fexofenadine) twice a day every day to suppress them, you need to see an allergist to help figure out what is causing the hives and how best to treat it.

Absolutely: Many patients require higher doses of antihistamines to control hives. Studies support even up to six pills daily under a doctor's supervision with a good plan. 2nd line therapy would be for you to add an h2 blocker such as zantac (ranitidine) or Pepcid at one pill (with allegra) twice daily.
