Maybe (not) . . .: Promethazine-codeine syrup is prescribed to cut down on cough. However, it won't affect duration of infection. Nor make it easier to breathe if you're short of breath or wheezing. Most bronchitis is caused by viruses which won't respond to antibiotics. In other words, taking antibiotics won't make you better any faster than if you didn't take them. Go see your family doc to be sure.
