See below: Erythromycin is the main stay of pertussis treatment. Azithromycin is an alternative. The earlier treatment is started the more effective it will be. Supportive care especially for infants is of paramount importance. Other adjunctive treatment with corticosteroids, salbutamol, pertussis specific igg and antihistamines have been used but no significant benefit was found with any of them.
