UTIs or overstretch: Easy for bacteria to reach a female's bladder, witholding urination allows bacteria enough time to multiply & cause cystitis. Witholding urination can also result in thickening of bladder detrusor muscle eventually leading to voiding dysfunction or overactive bladder. In some cases bladder stretches more & more until muscle can't contract efficiently causing partial or complete urinary retention.
