Fat necrosis & BR: Breast reduction is an operation designed to surgically reduce excess breast tissue, fat, skin and reshape the breast mound, while conserving nipple sensibility and the ability to lactate. Occasionally the blood supply to breast fat will be compromised and fat necrosis is appreciated as hard knots. The body is designed to gradually break down such firmness. Global hardness is rare.

No: Generally, breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations performed. This operation serves to reduce breast size and helps alleviate neck, back, shoulder discomfort for appropriately selected patients. Rarely, fat necrosis may be a complication of breast reduction surgery causing a segment of the breast to feel “hard”. Best wishes.

No: This is not a common complication. After breast reduction and healing, your breast should feel normal.
