A member asked:

Is it true that more cancer patients die from malnutrition rather than then disease itself?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some do: Some advanced cancers, as a manifestation of advanced disease, secrete a number of hormonal substances that cause a syndrome cause "cachexia". This leads to a severe lack of appetite and weight loss resulting in protein and calorie malnutrition. I don't believe anyone knows what proportion of patients with advanced cancers die in this way as opposed to other complications.
