A lot...: If you have exposed roots with sensitivity then you can use a toothpaste that is for sensitive teeth (spit out but don't rinse after brushing) a substance can be painted on in the area that is affected. If the recession is big..A tissue graft can be placed over the area. A piece of tissue is taken from one area (roof of mouth) and stitched into place. Don't let it get worse so go see dentist.

Filings/ gum grat: Depending on the situation, an exposed root may require a filling. If the need exists, and the environment ideal, a gum graft can be put to cover the exposed surface. It is possible that simple Fluoride applications can be placed to decrease the sensitivity.
