Depends on type: For pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors treated with surgery, the 5 year survival rate is ~15%. For exocrine pancreatic tumors, unfortunately, the 5 year survival rate is about 1%. These numbers come from the national cancer data base based on patients treated between 1992 and 1998. Thus, the survival rates may be higher now.

Very short: Stage IV of any cancer means the cancer has spread to the distant organs. This could mean the liver, bone, brain etc. Randy pausch, a computer engineer from carnegie mellon wrote "the last lecture". It is about his experience with advanced pancreatic cancer. I think you might want consider it.
