Depends on Cause: In general, you can start with artificial tears eye drops and/or over-the-counter allergy eye drops if there is itchiness. Also, be sure you are not rubbing the eyes. If there is discharge or any change in vision or other symptoms, it would be best to see your eye doctor.

Eye irritation: Try frequent artificial tears, ointment at night, and warm compresses. If no improvement, see an eye doctor.
