Reducing cough: Despite the over the counter cough medicines available, the current recommendation from the academy of chest surgeons is not to take medication to suppress your cough. Better, is to find out the cause of the cough and treat that as warranted. Cough serves a protective purpose, primarily to clear "foreign" material from the windpipe and lungs. I suggest you see your doctor to find the cause.
