I had the gastric bypass surgery, is it safe to have an mri without causing and problems from my surgery?

Should be fine: Pretty much all medical implants (something left behind) made after 1996 are MRI safe. With that said, you will still have to fill out a history form prior to the MRI and make sure to note all of your medical and surgical history.

Yes: Yes. The metal (staples) used in roux-en-y gastric bypass is safe for MRI procedures.
