A member asked:

My husband has a problem with sore mouth after chemo, what can we do to prevent this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Supportive care: Many chemotherapy regimens cause mouth sores, or mucositis. It is sometimes difficult to prevent the sores, but good oral hygiene can help to minimize them and prevent the risk of secondary infection. For a particular chemotherapy agent, methotrexate, your oncologist can sometimes increase hydration and give a medicine known as leucovorin to help with the development of mucositis.
