Absolutely: With proper care the vertical transmission rate (mother to baby) is near zero. Pregnant mothers with HIV should be treated with haart therapy as soon as they know they are pregnant. Vertical transmission rate is minimized to near zero if the mother's viral load is undetectable at birth. A cesarean delivery may be somewhat protective, but if viral load is zero is not required.
