Specializes in Pediatrics - Developmental and Behavioral

Growing pains are: A diagnosis of exclusion, made after her pediatrician rules out more serious causes of muscle or joint pain. They typically occur in the pm's & may wake up the child. Massage & carefully monitored heat helps growing pains; touching muscles/joints that are inflamed or swollen from other causes increases the pain. Caution: a child can develop learned night-waking/crying from the attention.
