No, the opposite: Antidepressants are for depression, not contraception. In fact, many antidepressants interact with birth control meds & make them less effective. If u need contraception, see fp/ gyn for appropriate choice, especially if u are going to also be taking an antidepressant.

Pregnancy: Some may be more likely to raise your prolactin level(paxil), which could disrupt or inhibit normal menses. However, it is not recommended to try to conceive while taking antidepressants , or other psychopharmaceuticals. They could cause problems for you or the fetus. The first 6 weeks are a very vulnerable time for the baby, and often when the mother is unaware of her condition. Discuss w/ md.
