Usually iron: The most common cause of anemia in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome is blood loss causing iron defficiency. Many other causes of anemia are possible, so one should have their doctor work this up with a couple of inexpensive blood tests to be sure. Iron rich foods include red meat, but also spinach, beans and other vegetables.
