One possibility : Pyriformis syndrome is a rare irritation of the sciatic nerve after it leaves the pelvis that can cause radiating pain. It is difficult to visualize with mri, and would not be seen at all with an MRI of the lumbar spine. More details of your symptoms would be helpful.

Do you sit a lot?: It could be due to poor posture and/or compression of your sciatic nerve from sitting. Also, do you perform self testicular exams? Testicular pain can be referred to the hip.
