If a person has herpes type1 on the lips, will he have antibodies and so not be able to get type1 on the genitals later?

No: A person who has been infected with herpes simplex virus (hsv) type 1 on the lips can only recur at the same location because the virus hides in the nerves to that area. They have immune protection against HSV 1 elsewhere. However, they are vulnerable to infection with HSV 2. Both types can infect genital or oral areas. Anti-viral medication can suppress the virus and risk of infection.

No: Both types can be present orally or in the genitals at any given time. Infection can occur while having a fever blister and there direct contact with the genitals.
