Yes, he can: An internal medicine doctor can evaluate u for add/adhd and u don't have to necessarily see a psychiatrist. He can also prescribe medications. Psychiatrist has more expertise in the diagnosis & treatment of add and adhd. Thanks.

Many options: The proper evaluation for adhd involves adherence to basic tenets as outlined in the dsm-iv tr. But the physical and neurologic exam done by a physician experienced in diagnosing and treating adhd is as important. Your pcp may have this experience. If not, they will refer you for proper evaluation.

Depends on the doc: It will depend on the doctor. Some pcps are very comfortable diagnosing and treating adhd and some will treat you after you have been diagnosed by a specialist. Some pcps are very uncomfortable with neuropsychiatric conditions and will things that are not scientifically based, for instance that adult adhd doesn't exist.
