Two things: First, when you lie down, blood which is held in your legs by gravity tends to flow back into your central body, increasing your kidneys' blood flow and urine output. Second, you might have an underlying bladder condition in which you cannot tolerate a large amount in the bladder at any given time; therefore, when there is increased nighttime volume, you have the urge to urinate more frequently.
