Some to consider: Depending on the type of hair loss, various treatments might be helpful. Checking for thyroid issues or anemia is important. Some forms of hair loss come from fungal infections. Otherwise, though I am unaware of any strong data, selenium and zinc may be of some benefit. A good multivitamin with b-complex may also offer some improvement.

Healthy diet: In a healthy person, majority of the hair follicles are in the growth phase. However, certain conditions such as stress, anemia, thyroid disease, crash diet, etc, will shift your follicles to the falling out phase, result in thinning. Removing the stressors and a healthy balanced diet will gradually correct the problem. If the hair loss is genetic and due to aging, it's difficult to reverse.
