A member asked:

Is there any other cause of the hyperkalemic paralysis except that it is genetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: The cause is strictly inherited as an autosomal dominant disorder which affects sodium channels in muscle cells and the ability to regulate potassium levels in the blood. It is most commonly associated with horses, but also occurs in humans. I hope this helps.
