Could be a wart: Warts especially on hands are easily irritated due to pressure, scratching etc. The inflamed wart will be red swollen and painful but should calm down in a few days. It needs to be seen by an md and are easily treated. Good luck!

Mucous cyst: If is near the nail or on top of jointly could be a muovus cyst which is filled with clear jelly like fluid and has roots in the joint. If it does not hirt i it not serious. It can be removed by a minor surgical procedure that will leave small scar.
