A few days: Be sure to liberally use salt in your diet when taking flurinef. The most common side effect is edema (swelling) and the dose should be adjusted to avoid more than a trace. Other side effects can be nausea, upset stomach, low potassium, menstrual irregularities, & acne.

Florinef (fludrocortisone): This drug should work the first time you take it if the dose is correct. It does not work immediately in the morning but causes your body to retain more fluid over the course of the day. That is intended to help regulate your blood pressure, especially when upright.
