Varies among babies: A healthy, normal-weight baby is getting enough formula if he feeds a while and then smiles and starts goofing around. Be sure he has a variety of solid foods if solid foods are a big part of the diet (after 12 months, babies can eat solids 3 times a day, in a high chair at the dining table with the family). At the 1 year-old check-up, the doctor can check his growth and a blood test for anemia.

Transitioning diet: At one year of age, it is generally recommended that a baby be transitioned to 18-24 ounces of non-formula milk and three meals, with two snacks per day.
