A member asked:

Is it common to take "sulfamethoxazole-tmp" pills for acne treatment (apparently its suppose to stop bacteria growth under the dark acne scar spots)?

See below: Smx-tmp is one of several antibiotics used to control cases of more severe acne (tetracycline family, clindamycin, some cephalosporins, Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) are also used). If acne is mild, use topical antibiotics to avoid side effects of systemic antibiotics: e.g., smx-tmp is a notorious photosensitizer, so use sunblock while taking it. Dermatologist can optimize regimen for acne.
