A member asked:

I do not have acid reflux , do not have a sore throat , and i am not sick . so what would cause you throat to feel like it wants to close?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Silent reflux": You don't have to have heartburn or the sense of stuff coming up to have "reflux". Most people with reflux don't have heartburn. The only symptom may be hoarseness, asthma, swallowing difficulty or the feeling like your throat will close. There is a muscle in the lower neck that encircles the upper food tube that hates stomach juice and acid. When it comes into contact with it it spasms.
