AssistBreathingSome: Typically, lh has 5 x workload as rh & in advanced heart failure, the lungs fill with water (from the blood) because the left heart is not pumping blood from lungs to the body as fast as the right heart is pumping in: called pulmonary edema/effusion. While tube/ventilator will not solve the problem it may keep her alive (not drowning) a little longer & offers hope that "everything" is being done.

For temporary help: If truly end-stage, including no longer a candidate for interventions to treat the heart disease, then as her heart has failed it has led to the lungs failing (hence the tube either short or long term). If unsure how best to treat her symptoms (such as feeling out of breath for a end-stage illness) ask her doctors to meet with you to make sure everything is done to keep her from suffering.
