Iodine: Iodine is necessary for certain functions in the body, but most important is the thyroid. The thyroid hormone consists of tyrosine and iodine and without sufficient iodine in the system the body can not make thyroid hormone, another tissue that utilizes a lot of iodine is the breast tissue. Iodine also has antibacterial and antiviral properies for the body.
