Many possibilities: This type of rash can be one of many things. If your child is feeling well otherwise, your doctor is probably right. However, if you are uncertain and concerned i would see a dermatologist who would likely be able to tell you exactly what is going on with the rash.

Could be viral but..: Without knowing more about it (where is it? Eg all over vs just one area), it is hard to speculate. Itchy/bumpy is usually some sort of contact dermatitis or eczema. Though.
