Fast vs Slow: Prick (epicuantous) tests examine ige mediated allergic diseases adn results are avaialble within 15-20 minutes. Patch tests look for delayed type hypersensitivity reactions, and are typically read at 72-96 hrs. They diagnose different types of immunologic (allergic) reactions. (the photo shows patch testing.).

Prick and Patch test: The skin prick test is the most common allergy skin test. Tiny drops of allergens are dropped on your skin, usually the back. A needle is then pricked through the skin into each extract. This test is read within 15inutes. With the allergy patch test, your doctor applies the specific allergen to a patch and then places this patch on your skin. You will be asked to leave the patch on for 48 hours.
